The working group (ArGeWe) is a loose connection of researchers without firm associative structures.
In fall of 1999 a number of researchers decided to establish this work shop, due to personal contacts that resulted from the search for ancestors from the Westerwald region. Our goal is avoiding double research and collecting already existing data. We would like to present these data on this web-site and encourage other researchers to join us. ArGeWe does not just consider its internet-pages to be a data pool. We would also like to present interesting information and curiosities concerning the Westerwald region. Therefore anyone, who does research in the Westerwald region is invited to join ArGeWe.

This FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) list was written to help genealogists who are interested in German and German-American genealogy. It is oriented to those who are getting started, either with genealogy or with the Internet. "German" here means the German language. Therefore, this list should be useful for researchers of German, German-American, Austrian, Swiss, Alsatian, Luxembourger, Liechtensteiner, and Eastern European German genealogy.

The german Gedcom database can be searched for complete family data. Unfortunately, it is not yet available in English.
The GedBas project was founded by the Verein für Computergenealogie. It should help family researchers to establish contact with other interested researchers and exchange search results. Contrary to FOKO, GedBas contains detailed information. So it is not necessarily required to send an Email or a letter to the submitter, because everyone can see at once by searching the database whether the research results are of interest to him or not.
